OpenSolaris Day

First I thank Mr.Ananth Srinivas and Mr.Prathap Devarajan from SUN Microsystems for the wonderful session on OpenSolaris. This OpenSolaris day was conducted in our college on August 18th. The session started with History of Opensolaris. They clearly explained how Opensolaris is born into this Tech-world. Then they moved to the special features Only in Opensolaris and not in any other OS. I saw the simply superb customized GNOME in their laptops.

Dynamic trace is an amazing tool and they showed its power by executing some scripts. Its like an Operating Systems Lab session. We can see a live view of how the concepts in OS are implemented and working without touching any code, by only executing some two or three lines of Dtrace scripts. They told that we could run GNU/Linux inside Opensolaris Using Branded Zones.

In the afternoon session they talked about ZFS, the first 128 bit file
systems with amazing features. ZFS delivers unlimited capacity, data integrity and a cool and easy way of administration. Then they listed the tools avialble in Opensolaris. They showed some interesting commands pmap, prstat, mdb, etruss and etc. Knowing the history and implementation of Belenix from the developer was a wonderful experience. I am walking in the 10th direction towards Opensolaris and joined in MOSUG.

OpenSolaris is an Openbook for Opearating Systems.
